June 2010 Newsletter

ANNUAL MEETING – Sat., July 10th – 9:30 a.m. :
The meeting will again take place in the yards of Mary Richards and the Goldsmith homes on Olde Pine Rd (off Rte 153). Thanks to Mary and the Goldsmiths for once again donating their yards for our meeting. (BRING A CHAIR/dress for the weather). President Pete plans to start the meeting promptly at 9:30.

PRP ASSOCIATION LEADERSHIP
Be “in the know” – attend the annual meeting, find out what’s new, what’s happening and consider taking a leadership role. New leadership and fresh ideas are always welcome. If you love Pine River Pond, and who doesn’t?, help keep lake life special – there is a place for you to help! Speak to President Pete or any officer.

MARINE PATROL – 150 FT MARKER BUOY
Notice the large orange marker buoy opposite Morin’s Point (north end of lake/west shore). It is a visual representation of what the 150 foot “safe passage” distance looks like. The Safe Passage boating rule requires 150’ distance from other boats, swimmers, shorelines – unless you are going headway speed. Be safe! Avoid a fine and keep life on the lake safe for all.

BOATING TIP: WAKE UP? BOW DOWN!
Please watch your wake. Big wakes not only accelerate shoreline erosion, they can affect small craft boating nearby and play havoc with beach activities. If your bow is UP and your boat is not on PLANE, then speed up to plane out and reduce your wake or slow down to headway speed. Thank you!

NIGHT LIGHTING- ROMANCE KILLER:
Got your attention? Good! Please turn off or redirect outside lights if pointing out towards the lake. Bright lights hinder night time boating as well as romantic stargazers.

PRP “SHIRT & MORE SHOP”– NEW LOCATION :
Deb Dunn, 110 Grenier Rd (off Lord Rd) is our new PRP Shop Keeper! The Grand Re-Opening will be June 20th Father’s Day. Enjoy fresh muffins, coffee and candy for the kids! Regular store hours will be Sundays 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM AND when the “OPEN” flag is flying. If you come by boat you may use Lundgren’s or Orosky docks. These are the two places to the left of Dunn’s. If you come by car, Grenier Road is a left about 3/10 of a mile down Lord Road – right fork.

ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT:
Date: Friday, July 9, 2010 – Tee off at 8:20 a.m.
Where: Province Lake Golf Course
The tournament will be a four-person scramble. Entrance fee is $70 per person for those of you who are not members at Province Lake Golf Course. The fee for PLG members will be reduced based on your membership level. Pre-payment is required. Please call Don Cormier at home at (603) 522-3292 evenings or his cell phone at 603-781-4952 during the day for details.

FIREWORKS - SAT, July 10th 9:30 PM
(Rain date July 17…. same time)
We will have a NEW fireworks company this year: Telstar of Jaffrey, NH. Get ready for a great show! It will take place at the Michawanic Village Association Beach. Organized by our faithful and fearless President Pete (whom we thank) we also express thanks and appreciation to the Michawanic Village Association for their continued permission for the show. Volunteers are needed for beach clean up at 8:30 a.m. the morning after the show. Many helping hands make quick work!
This popular event is made possible by the enthusiastic donations from our members, their families and others who visit and look forward to the show.. The “suggested” donation is $25.00 but we DEPEND on larger donations to reach the $7,000+ cost. If you are not already donating with your membership application, you may donate by writing a check payable to the PRP Assn, memo note: “Fireworks” and mail to our PO Box in the header. Ready? Write that check, sit back - enjoy the show!

LOON NEWS:
There are at least three loons on the lake and we’ll likely end up with one resident pair. If they nest, our resident “loon rangers” will mark the nesting area to discourage disruption by boats. A Loon Coordinator of volunteers is needed. Please call Judy Congdon to find out what this involves. Call her at 522-3676.

DRINKING WATER TESTING:
Barry Fryer confirms the following: Drinking water testing dates are Mondays June 7, July 12, August 9 and September 13. The procedure involves picking up a kit from Barry, taking a sample no sooner than the day before and dropping it off at his dock (with the big loon cutouts) the same day so it can be taken to Concord on one of the above dates. For questions contact Barry at 522-8555. Thanks, Barry!

WEED WATCH:
We hope to have another weed watch day on August 8th to coincide with Barry Fryer’s water testing trip to Concord on Monday, August 9. A Weed Watch Coordinator is needed. This is a one day EASY volunteer job. Could it be you? Call Bob Lundgren if you can help: 522-8235. Volunteers take and mark a weed watch bag and collect weed samples off the lake bottom. Sites near the many private boat launches are the most likely to become contaminated. Some locations will need a person with swim mask. Once samples are taken and marked, they are brought directly to Barry Fryer’s dock where there is a waiting cooler. That’s it!! Why do a weed watch every year? Read on.

PUBLIC ACCESS and MILFOIL CAUTION:
Nothing new to report - yet. There are many private launching spots on the lake so it is incumbent on all who use them to be SURE trailers and drive systems are FREE of ANY weeds. Local lakes with milfoil are: Belleau’s, Wentworth, Balch and Winnipesaukee (especially Back Bay). All it takes is a STRAND to infect our lake, create a financial nightmare to resolve and threaten to reduce property values.

FISHING LICENSES ON LINE:
Fishing licenses are required for most folks on PRP and as a reminder it is possible for you to buy a fishing license on-line. Go to www.wildlife.state.nh.us. You will need a credit card and a printer but you’ll save time and gas.
“Didja know” dept. If you’re age 68 or older and a resident of NH you should be eligible for a free fishing license. These can’t be purchased on line but are available at the Town Hall and other license issuing facilities.

REMINDERS TO BE “LEGAL”:
Don’t forget boat registration stickers, fishing licenses and dump stickers. In addition, seasonal campfire permits are available at the Safety building in Sanbornville as well as Rte 153 Garage (Rhodie’s) in East Wakefield. Permits to burn brush are normally issued only when it’s raining, except in winter when there’s snow on the ground. Dump stickers are now sold right at the dump. How easy is that?

LOSE THE LITTER:
Wouldn’t it be great if you never had to look at a can, bottle or other “junk” on the side of area roads? No sense preaching to the choir here! So, if you see LITTER, pick it up … all day long you’ll have good luck. Oops, I think that refers to a penny. But, honestly, let’s teach the litter lovers a lesson and make all litter DISAPPEAR when we see it! The theory is some litter breeds more litter.

LOST AND FOUND, “FOR SALE” & TIMELY LAKE RELATED UPDATES:
Contact Dave Lee Sr (prpassociation@roadrunner.com) and he will “broadcast” information to our on-line group as necessary. This valuable, time-sensitive service is only for lake-related matters. The PRP Assn reserves the right to decide what is appropriate.

BOAT PARADE - YEAR 38
Sunday., Sept 5, 2009.. leave from sandbar at 1:30 PM.
( Note the word BOAT..not just party boat) . All boats are welcome and decoration is optional. It’s always a spirited event. Questions? Call organizer Jennifer Golini at 522-6174 or check our website.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL PROCEDURE:
Along with this newsletter you’ll receive a membership renewal application with return envelope for your convenience (as well as hopefully being an incentive for prompt return to us). Please update information and return with your check for dues and a fireworks donation for this year’s show. Why not DO IT NOW

ROAD ASSOCIATION INFORMATION NEEDED
The PRP Association would like to know the names and contact information for all the various road association leaders on the lake. In this role, you’ll be invited to attend the Spring and Fall PRP Board meetings. Please e-mail prpassociation@roadrunner.com with this information.

NEW NEIGHBORS?
If you have new neighbors, they may be interested in the PRP Association. When you have the chance, introduce yourself and mention the PRP Assn. and our web site. If you have an address (snail-mail or e-mail), let an officer know so we can welcome them too.

SEVEN LAKES ATV Club:
Local snowmobilers have done a fine job in improving winter recreation through the Seven Lakes Snowmobile Club. However, many ATV owners have been frustrated by the limited options available in our area for non-winter riding. Kim Mendell. local beautician, barber and Belleau Lake resident has taken the bull by the horns to form a club. She seeks help and support from interested riders, since like the snowmobile clubs, landowner permission is required. Please note that the definition of an ATV does NOT include 4WD cars and trucks!. If you’re interested in learning more, contact Kim at k_mndll@yahoo.com

ICE OUT CONTEST
Ice out this year was the earliest ever. I was away at the time but was in regular contact with my deputy spotters on the lake. The ice on the main lake went out nearly a week before but the north end (dam end) had frozen first, had the thickest ice and went out last. Ice out was March 28 at 3:30 PM. Winner to be announced at ann’l meeting.
